People's Grocery is a community-based organization in West Oakland that develops creative solutions to the health problems in our community that stem from a lack of access to and knowledge about healthy, fresh foods. Our mission is to build a local food system that improves the health and economy of the West Oakland community.
Shakti Rising provides holistic, trauma-informed services to young women who are dealing with multiple issues including substance abuse, body-image issues, interpersonal violence, and depression, empowering them to utilize their personal transformation as a catalyst for positive change in their families and communities.
Vitamin Angels is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing vital nutrition in the form of supplements, to developing countries, communities and individuals in need. Vitamin Angels has set its sights on the issue of childhood blindness, with plans to eliminate childhood blindness by the year 2020 through the systematic distribution of vitamin A to at-risk children. Just $1 provides sufficient funding to preserve the sight of one child. In addition, Vitamin Angels sponsors programs to supply multivitamins to at-risk children and vital supplements to expecting mothers.
The St. Vincent de Paul Society is a nonprofit organization that provides direct assistance to anyone suffering or in need. They offer a lifeline to those in want of food and clothing, rent assistance, medical aid, help with addiction or incarceration, employment and shelter. The motto of the St. Vincent de Paul Society is “no act of charity is foreign to the Society”.
GLAAD is dedicated to promoting and ensuring fair, accurate and inclusive representation of people and events in the media as a means of eliminating homophobia and discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation.
Charlotte Maxwell Complementary Clinic is a state licensed health clinic providing free complementary alternative medical treatments to low-income women with cancer.
Lifeline of Hope brings hope to the orphans of the world by providing food, shelter, medical, children's Bibles, educational assistance, adoption services and more, in a manner that breaks the cycle of dependence and promotes individual and societal productivity as well as charitable character within the community.
